When does Dancing on Ice 2014 start?

Question: When will the new series of Dancing on Ice begin in 2014?

Answer: ITV have now announced the official start date for final series of DOI. The new series will premiere at 6:15pm on Sunday, 5 January, 2014.

Stars of the show Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean have chosen this time to bring the skating show to an end, in part because it marks 30 years since winning their Olympic Gold medals in style. It was back in February of 1984 at the Sarajevo Winter Olympics, where on their way to victory, the pair broke the competitions figure skating scoring record.

Having been one of ITV’s most popular reality shows for eight years now, it’s no doubt with great reluctance on the part of producers and viewers alike, that the series bids farewell in 2014. Since beginning in 2006, the show has triggered a huge increase in both ice skating interest and participation all over the UK.

Although this is due to be Dancing on Ice’s last series with Torvill and Dean set to call it a day, don’t be surprised if sheer viewer demand forces ITV to rethink their decision.

But for now at least, weekend television for reality fans is looking pretty good in early 2014. Between BBC’s The Voice on Saturday nights and DOI covering Sundays, X Factor and Strictly withdrawal symptoms should be well and truly eased.

For fans also hoping to see their skating stars in the flesh, a live arena tour is once again scheduled to follow the TV series in March.
