Not your typical BBC Four programme, the air date for Mackenzie Crook’s new comedy Detectorists, has now been announced.

Starting Thursday 2 October, 2014, this six-part series revolves around the interesting relationship between Andy (Mackenzie) and Lance (Toby Jones), two friends who share a passion for metal detecting.

Despite their gripes and sometimes acting more like an old married couple, deep down the pair possess a genuine bond. Joined by a group of eccentric Danbury Metal Detecting Club friends, the group dream of finding that priceless Saxon hoard.

In episode 1 the pair go after the discovery of a lifetime, but must first get permission from the landowner, the ‘mad one’, who is rumoured to have done away with his wife.

Filmed in Norfolk, Suffolk, and Essex during the summer of 2014, Detectorists was also written and directed by lead cast member Mackenzie Crook.
