Following some very brief teasers over recent weeks, BBC One chose the half-time break of the World Cup final to release the full-length Doctor Who 2014 trailer.

Don’t worry if you weren’t one of the millions of footie fans tuning in to watch Germany narrowly defeat Messi and co, as here’s your chance to watch all 1 minute, 5 seconds of the official trailer as many times as you like:

Having previously been limited to the odd photo or dark video clip, this preview finally gives fans a genuinely good look at Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman in action together (actually moving and talking).

In a very dramatic appetizer for the new series, we hear Capaldi say: “I’m The Doctor, I’ve lived for over 2000 years, I’ve made many mistakes, it’s about time that I did something about that.”

That time is now drawing ever closer, with Doctor Who series 8 premiering on Saturday, 23 August, 2014 on BBC One. The new season is set to kick-off with a feature length first episode.

Confirmed guest cast members for 2014 include Keeley Hawes (Line of Duty), Sanjeev Bhaskar (The Kumars), Hermione Norris (The Crimson Field), Ben Miller (Death in Paradise), Tom Riley (Monroe) and comedian Frank Skinner.
