BBC One have just released this very brief teaser trailer (below) for the upcoming Doctor Who 2014 series. Though the 15 second video doesn’t give away much of what viewers can expect from the new season and certainly no spoilers, it does confirm the release date has now been officially set for August.

Simple stating ‘The New Doctor Lands This August’, fans are given just a glimpse in silhouette of Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi standing in the TARDIS. Taking over from the popular Matt Smith, the 56-year-old Scottish actor will be joined on-screen by returning companion Clara Oswald, again played by the 28-year-old English actress Jenna-Louise Coleman.

Season 8 of Doctor Who will also see the pair teaming-up with new male companion Danny Pink, played by English actor Samuel Anderson.

Already lined-up for special 2014 guest cast appearances are Keeley Hawes (Line of Duty), Ben Miller (Death in Paradise), Tom Riley (Monroe), Hermione Norris (The Crimson Field) and comedian Frank Skinner.

We’ll bring you more news on the exact series 8 UK air date, plus more cast list information, just as soon as the BBC makes an official announcement. With filming having already begun in Cardiff in January of this year, the new season of Doctor Who is scheduled to air for a total of 13 episodes.

UPDATE: It’s now been officially announced that the new series will premiere in the UK on Saturday, 23 August, 2014.
