The Moffatt's - Gogglebox - Channel 4

The Moffatt’s – Channel 4

The Moffatt Family

Dad Mark, mum Betty and daughter Scarlett Moffatt live in County Durham, in the North East of England.

Scarlett Sigourney Moffatt has previously starred on the 2013 MTV reality series ‘Beauty School Cop Outs’. According to her Twitter account, this young lady is a ‘Self confessed geek & JD lover with an addiction to fake tan & taking selfies!’

Sandy and Sandra

Sandy Channer, age 48 and Sandra Martin, 52, are best friends from Brixton, London. Sandra has four children and two grandchildren and has been best friends with Sandy for over 40 years.

Stephanie and Dominic Parker

Often referred to by viewers as the ‘Posh Couple’, Steph (47) and Dom (49) own and run The Salutation, a high-end bed & breakfast in Sandwich, Kent, which has previously played host to both royal and celebrity guests. Stephanie used to work for NATO and the European Commission while Dominic previously ran the family steel business. The couple who have been married for 16 years, after first meeting on a blind date, are regularly accompanied on the sofa by their beloved sausage dog, Gigi.

With series 4 of Gogglebox again set to run for 12 weeks, let’s hope they’ve got the drinks cabinet well stocked.

Stephen and Chris - Gogglebox - Channel 4

Stephen and Chris – Channel 4

Chris and Stephen

Chris Steed (37) and Stephen Webb (42) first met nine years ago and both now work as hairdressers. Stephen spends much of his time at Chris’ bungalow in Brighton, where the pair love to chill out in front of the telly with a nice takeaway. The bungalow is also home to Chris’ beloved cat ‘Ginge’.

During series 2, while viewing the documentary ‘7 Days of The Fuhrer’, Stephen stated “Hitler was born with teeth….born with teeth.”

The Tapper Family

Jonathan (46), wife Nikki (41) and children Josh (16) and Amy (14). This Jewish couple have lived in North London for the last 17 years. Jonathan used to own a kosher restaurant but is now working as an executive chauffeur, while Nikki works as a nursery teacher.

While watching Sarah Beeny’s stately home on series 2 of Gogglebox, Josh commented: “97 bedrooms but I bet it’s in a crap area.”

June and Leon

June (76) and husband Leon (79) are retired teachers from Liverpool who’ve been married for 54 years. June used to teach English, while Leon was a history teacher. When the pair aren’t sat in front of the telly, Leon is a keen bridge player, while June likes a bit of swimming. The couple have two daughters: Helen and Julie, plus three grandchildren.

Fortunately for Leon, with the X Factor not currently on our screens, he won’t have to tolerate the likes of Gary Barlow and “Nickel skirt singer” this series.

The Michael's - Gogglebox - Channel 4

The Michael’s – Channel 4

The Michael Family

Retired Greek-Cypriot hotelier Andrew (55) and British wife Carolyne (52) have been married for 28 years. The couple live together in Brighton with their son Louis (17) and daughter Alex (23). Alex is studying for her Masters degree in Computer science.

Andrew and Carolyne also have a son called Pascal and a 24-year-old daughter called Katie. Pascal is currently studying Neuroscience at Aberdeen while Katie recently returned from Australia after travelling for six months.

On the 6th of December 2014 it was reported by the Daily Mail that Gogglebox’s very own Andrew Michael would be replacing Ralph Atkinson as the UKIP candidate for Hastings and Rye.

The Siddiqui Family

Dad Sid (69) (real name Mohammed) from Derby, used to be an engineer, but now works in the Healthcare industry. Born in Pakistan, Sid moved to Derby when he was 16-years-old. Following an arranged marriage, he’s now been with his wife for 37 years. The couple have two daughters and three sons.

On Gogglebox, we always see Sid watching TV with his sons Umar (36) and Baasit (31). Umar works as a Microbiologist in a hospital and is the families only single son, with Baasit having got married just under a year ago.

During last years series of the X Factor, Baasit pointed out “You know it’s a shit performance when the only thing Dermot pays compliment to is the stage set.”

A future classic Siddiqui quote from 2015 was “To hate Ant & Dec is to hate life.”

Linda, Pete and George

Pete (63) and Linda (64) who live in Clacton-On-Sea, have been married for seventeen years. Pete and stepson George are very close, with George calling him Dad. Linda who’s a carer, and Pete who works as an electrician, grew up in London’s East End but now live by the seaside. George recently moved back home with his parents after he and his long term partner broke up.

Update: In August of 2014, George Gilbey entered the house to take part in Channel 5’s Celebrity Big Brother. The funniest thing being, despite not having genuine celeb status, the 30-year-old is probably the most recognisable face in the lineup. Unfortunately, likely as a result of George’s CBB participation, neither he, Linda or Pete are expected to feature in the Gogglebox series 4 cast.

Bill and Josef - Gogglebox - Channel 4

Bill and Josef – Channel 4

Bill and Josef

Bill (66) met Josef (68) seventeen years ago at a Monopoly charity walk and the pair have been friends ever since. Bill, who works as a journalist, is a former British Chess Champion and has represented our country multiple times. Josef’s an accountant and avid ‘gamer’ who first got into card and board games aged fourteen. He’s currently none other than the World Cluedo and Scottish Monopoly Champion.

William Hartston and Josef Kollar are both currently living in Cambridge.

The Vicar

Reverend Kate Bottley (39) and husband Graham. Kate is the vicar for Ranskill, Blyth and Scrooby, with the Channel 4 filming taking place in Blyth. Graham meanwhile, works as a music teacher.

The Woerdenweber Family

Probably known best to viewers as the German family, this household from The Wirral is made up of Vivien, her German husband Ralph, her daughter Eve and Eve’s mysterious boyfriend ‘Silent’ Jay. When the group first appeared on our screens back in 2013, I thought the shows producers were editing things to make it look as if Jay never speaks, for comedy value. But as time has gone on, it appears what you see is what you get.

Finally a drinking game which promotes teetotalism, every time Jay makes a comment, you gotta down your drink.

It could of course be that the guys a genius, has every matter all ready figured out and resolved in his own mind, and therefore has no need to debate with others on such trivial matters as TV. Or it could simply be Jay’s form of protest against what he may see as the dumbing down of British television.

Update: After seeing a surprise empty space on the Woerdenweber sofa during the episode first broadcast on Friday 10 April 2015, viewers all over the country were left asking the same question: Where is Silent Jay? Much to the disappointment of his loyal fans, it was later confirmed by the Mirror that Jay had quit the show shortly after his relationship with Eve came to an end.

Jenny and Lee - Gogglebox - Channel 4

Jenny and Lee – Channel 4

Jenny and Lee

East Riding best friends Jenny and Lee are the latest faces to join the shows cast. According to the Hull Daily Mail, the pairs TV viewing antics are filmed at the Patrington Haven Caravan Park in East Yorkshire.

David, Kai and James

Something for the ladies? Single Reading housemates David, Kai and James have now also joined the Gogglebox family for series 4, making their debut in episode 2.

The Malone Family

Joining the show for series 4 are new family, the dog loving Malone’s from Manchester.

The Da Silva Family

The first new household joining the show in 2015 are the Da Silva family from Central London. I’m sure I saw their cat wearing a hat!

Gogglebox - Giles and Mary - Channel 4

Giles and Mary – Channel 4

Giles and Mary

Another new addition for 2015 are Wiltshire couple Giles and Mary. Despite initially coming across as a little dull, this arty pair quickly won viewers over with Giles ‘Neighbours’ inspired comment: “Australians can do no wrong in my eyes. Obviously with the exception of Rolf.”

Ellie and Izzi

The start of series 6 in September, 2015 not only saw the return of the Michael family, but also the debut of sisters Ellie and Izzi, from Leeds. Maybe it’s my imagination, but the girl sat on the left (who I assume is Ellie) looks a bit like Miley Cyrus.

David and Shirley

The next pair of newcomers for season 6 are Welsh couple David and Shirley, from Caerphilly.

Celebrity Gogglebox

Originally airing on Friday 17 October 2014, a special celeb version of the show made up part of Channel 4’s Stand Up to Cancer night of programming. Appearing on the show were models Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss, with musician Noel Gallagher. Miranda Hart cozied up with sitcom co-stars Sarah Hadland and Tom Ellis. Finally, TV presenter Paul O’Grady and actress Kathy Burke gave arguably the most authentic and honest reactions of the night.

Hmm, Celebrity Gogglebox, could this be the start of something big? Just as long as it’s not at the cost of the original, non-celeb version. If anything, this special episode just served to demonstrate how hard it is for people off the telly to honestly critique people off the telly.

At Home with Dom and Steph

On Monday 10 November 2014, Radio Times announced that ‘posh couple’ Steph and Dom are to be joined on the sofa by UKIP leader Nigel Farage. A special Gogglebox spin-off, the show is scheduled to air on Channel 4 in 2015. We’ll bring you more news on an exact air date when it’s announced.

What is the Gogglebox theme tune?

The shows theme music is performed by the Irish rock band ‘Kodaline’. Featuring the lyrics ‘In a perfect world’, the song is simply titled ‘Perfect World’. If you’d like to hear more of this catchy track, here’s the full version, along with it’s official video:

Voice Over

With the Channel 4 show being loosely based on the classic BBC sitcom ‘The Royle Family’, it’s only fitting that the Gogglebox narration is done by the comedy series’ star Caroline Aherne. During part of series 2, fellow Royle Family actor and creator Craig Cash, filled in for Caroline and now voices the series 3 sponsorship segments that feature ‘Sofaworks’ sloth Neal.

Originally planned series 3 households who never made it to air

The Carr Family

Head of the Carr household is Grandma Ann (89), who moved to Birmingham from Jamaica back in the 1960’s. Since her husband passed away, she has lived alone, but daughter, Verona (52), spends all her spare time with her mum, cooking for her and taking her to church. Regular visitors to Ann’s home also include Nate (30), who happens to be the first of her 49 grandchildren.

When not with Grandma Ann, Verona works as a health care assistant, while Nate is a gospel choir manager. In addition to her 49 grandchildren, Ann also has 44 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and even 3 great-great-great grandchildren. So how she finds time to watch telly, I don’t know.

Joe and Josh

Josh Townsend (20) and Joe Teulon (19) currently study forensic science together at Kingston University. The pair have been best friends ever since Joe spotted Josh outside class, reading a comic. Like a real-life Leonard and Sheldon from ‘The Big Bang Theory’, when not studying, Joe and Josh love to read comic books, discuss superpowers, visit comic stores and collect superhero memorabilia.

Josh loves acquiring Star Wars’ clone trooper outfits to wear to, you guessed it, comic book conventions. Where else you gonna wear them?

Form an orderly queue ladies as Joe and Josh currently live at home with their families in West London. Joe lives with his mum, dad and sister, but along with Josh, spends much of his time watching telly and reading comics in his bedroom.
