Following the recommissioning of Shetland back in April of 2014, the BBC’s head of drama production for Scotland, Christopher Aird, stated: “Shetland is a really distinctive crime series that has proved hugely popular with audiences both here in Scotland and across the rest of the UK. I am thrilled it has been commissioned for a third outing and rest assured we have some really exciting plans for viewers from DI Perez and his team.”

Despite being one of the BBC’s most popular crime-dramas, Shetland is in fact produced by ITV Studios through BBC Scotland.

Originally premiering in March of 2013, the BBC TV series has been adapted from Ann Cleeves’s successful Shetland quartet crime novels.
