In a welcomed yet unsurprising announcement, the BBC today confirmed they had commissioned a new season 2 of The Musketeers.

Given the massive popularity of this fresh action drama, it was seemingly just a matter of time before the second series got the nod. The shows impressive rating figures of up to 9.3 million viewers, show this different kind of historical drama is proving a big hit among British audiences. Much to the hindrance of ITV’s Mr Selfridge.

With writer and creator Adrian Hodges back on-board, series 2 of The Musketeers looks set to build on the quick success of its original run.

Plus with season 1 not yet even halfway complete, there’s still plenty of action yet to come in 2014, including special guest appearances from the likes of Sean Pertwee and Vinnie Jones.

As for The Musketeers series 2 premiere date speculation, at this very early stage we’d predict sometime around January, 2015.
