The new 2015 series of The Musketeers sees a couple of key changes to the shows regular cast line-up. First will be the exit of Peter Capaldi as Cardinal Richelieu, with the Scottish actor now focusing on his role as the new Doctor. Secondly, there’s the addition of actor Marc Warren, who’ll play the new series baddie Comte De Rochefort. The ‘Hustle’ and ‘Mad Dogs’ stars character is described as having a ‘talent for sword fighting and a taste for adventure’, so expect a more hands on villain than we got with the Cardinal.

When does The Musketeers season 2 start in the UK?

The Musketeers series 2 UK start date and time has been officially set for Friday 2 January 2015 at 9:00pm on BBC1, switching from series 1’s original Sunday night slot. Though this means the show won’t have to jump out of the way of this years BAFTA Awards, Friday nights bring with them even worse interruptions.

If your wondering on any given Friday night why The Musketeers isn’t on, chances are it’s either due to BBC One’s live coverage of FA Cup football, or Six Nations Rugby. This means you’ll frustratingly have to wait another week to watch the next instalment of D’Artagnan and co’s adventures. Annoying, but perhaps not on the same level as the Atlantis mid-season break.

Meanwhile, the shows US premiere date has now also been announced, with The Musketeers cast returning to BBC America on Saturday January 17 2015 at 9:00pm ET.

Filming for the second season began in Prague during April 2014 and it’s now been officially confirmed by the BBC that the new series will again comprise of 10, 60-minute episodes.

Behind the Scenes of The Musketeers Series 2: D’Artagnan and Constance

Created by Adrian Hodges, this latest TV drama is his fresh and contemporary take on the classic characters of the Alexandre Dumas novel ‘The Three Musketeers’.

Earlier Cast News

Actor Colin Salmon and actress Antonia Thomas are set to guest star together in an episode written by Adrian Hodges and Lucy Catherine. Colin is most famous for playing the role of Charles Robinson in the three James Bond films: ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’, ‘The World Is Not Enough’ and ‘Die Another Day’, plus the character James Shade in the ‘Resident Evil’ series of movies. Antonia meanwhile, is best known for playing Alisha in the E4 comedy-drama ‘Misfits’ and Maddy in the BBC series ‘The Deep’.

This particular episode of The Musketeers will see Colin play the part of Tariq, a mysterious interloper on the run from Spain, while Antonia plays his daughter Samara, a gutsy and resilient woman whose life is put at risk when her father becomes exiled.

Executive producers, Adrian Hodges and Jessica Pope told the BBC: “We’re excited to welcome an actor of Colin’s reputation to The Musketeers. He will bring wonderful charisma and sense of mystery to the role. We’ve also been aware for some time of Antonia’s wonderful work in films and TV series such as Sunshine On Leith and Misfits, among numerous others. She brings such intelligence and vibrancy to every role she plays and we are thrilled to have her as Samara.”

For the new series, Hodges promises “More stunts, more action, a little humour and wit, and some romance in the mix, as before”. This time however, the shows lead writer tells us to expect “A more demanding journey than before, as we’ve upped the serial element and taken the show in a slightly tougher and perhaps more surprising direction. . . The tone remains the same but this is a darker and sexier Musketeers.”
