Just when it looked like this years series of the X Factor UK, had already produced greater talent than anything America had to offer, we watched tonight’s episode of X Factor USA on ITV.
Despite her lyrical forgetfulness, after seeing Britain’s Tamera Foster’s rendition of Whitney Houston’s ‘I Have Nothing’, you could have been forgiven for thinking nobody can top that. It now appears though that just weeks later, the X Factor USA’s Ashly Williams may have done just that.
Like Tamera, the Los Angeles contestant chose to prove her vocal credentials by taking on a Whitney classic, this time singing ‘I Will Always Love You’. Being the last performance of the show, Ashly was obviously going to be good. We didn’t however, think she’d be this good:
Even though the 24 year old may have eight years on Tamera, her emotional performance did appear faultless, even with power to spare. To say someone can sing ‘I Will Always Love You’ in Whitney’s style and make it look comfortable, that’s really saying something.
So if you needed a reason to follow this years US season, this cross-Atlantic battle of the voices could be it. The X Factor USA is being broadcast in the UK every Thursday night at 8:00 PM on ITV2.
