Here’s a look at a further three contestants you’ll be seeing in The Great British Bake Off 2014, which begins airing this Wednesday on BBC One.

Claire – Age 31

Claire is a speech and language therapist living in Cheshire. She’s been baking since the age of 11 due to both her mum and grandmother being wedding cake decorators and her father working as a chef. The 31-year-old used to be something of a chaotic baker, but since marrying her husband, chemist Carl, his precision work appears to have rubbed off on her.

Claire has been known for her rather unorthodox approach to slimming clubs, bringing cakes she’s baked to meetings for her fellow slimmers. Certainly a nice way to test their willpower.

Richard – Age 38

Born in north London, Richard is a family man through and through. He’s the fourth generation in his family’s building business. A keen diver, fisher and cyclist, he has his own allotment in the back garden and volunteers for the National Wildlife Trust.

The 38-year-old is as comfortable cooking in the kitchen as he is building one, enjoying baking with his wife and two daughters. Richard loves bread and pastry and likes rummaging through his vegetable patch to find something to bake with.

Nancy – Age 60

Originally from Hull, Nancy moved to Lincolnshire 24 years ago to work at a GP surgery as the practice manager. There she met her husband, Tim, who was working as a GP at the practice. Now retired, she likes to keep active by rearing guinea fowl, growing vegetables, cycling and ‘growing her own turkeys for Christmas’. Her children call this ‘The Good Life’.

The 60-year-old also trains dogs for obedience but one dog, Meg, embarrassed her at Crufts by falling asleep in the judging arena. Nancy and Tim have renovated a house in the south of France, and their time spent over there has had an influence on her style of baking.

So will any of these three bakers be contenders for this years crown? Beginning at 8:00pm on Wednesday, 6 August, viewers will see The Great British Bake Off 2014 contestants battle it out for the title of Britain’s top amateur baker.

This years GBBO is again being hosted by Mel and Sue, with judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry also returning for the fifth series.
