The Voice USA: Should BBC Three Broadcast the Show on UK TV?

With Channel 5 recently showing American Idol and X Factor USA starting this week on ITV2, we can help but wonder why the BBC doesn’t obtain the rights to broadcast The Voice USA.

With season 5 of the show premiering next week on NBC, BBC Three airing the series in the UK would surely fit into the schedules rather nicely. Say early or mid-week while there’s no X Factor or Strictly?

Even if they decided to show season 4 from earlier this year it would be better than nothing, in the same way ITV2 are currently broadcasting the 2012 season of America’s Got Talent.

Personally I think it would fill the gap while we wait for the new UK series to start in 2014, but perhaps the Beeb believe The Voice USA would overshadow their own homegrown version. However if interest is the issue, with coaches such as Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera and Maroon 5’s Adam Levine or Shakira and Usher in season 4, it’s not as if there’d be no familiar faces for UK viewers.

So have the BBC got it right or is there a genuine demand for overseas talent shows on UK TV?
