When does Luther season 4 start? – Idris Elba to Return as DCI John Luther in 2015

When does Luther start again with the new series 4?

The BBC confirmed on the 19th of November 2014 that award winning British actor Idris Elba will indeed be reprising his role as the obsessive Detective Chief Inspector John Luther.

The hit crime series is scheduled to premiere in the UK in 2015, returning for a 2 x 1 hour special event. With filming beginning in and around London in March of 2015, the Luther season 4 air date will be set for later that year. Fans should likely expect an Autumn release on BBC One and we’ll bring you more news on that as it’s announced.

The critically acclaimed psychological crime drama, which first hit TV screens back in 2010, is created and written by Emmy-nominated writer Neil Cross. Speaking to the BBC about the highly anticipated return of his much loved creation, Neil told them: “Ever since we said goodbye to John Luther on Southwark Bridge, there’s hardly been a minute when I didn’t wonder what happened next. So I decided to find out. We’re putting the band back together; Luther is coming back where he belongs. Back to the BBC. Back to London. And back to work.”

Other than the return of Idris Elba, there’s currently no official word on which other Luther cast members will be joining him. But judging by Cross’s “We’re putting the band back together.” comment, we’ll almost certainly be seeing more of actress Alice Morgan as Ruth Wilson. Following the dramatic series finale though, there will of course be no more Warren Brown playing Detective Sergeant Justin Ripley.
