What’s the show about?

Set in a rebuilding post-war Britain against a backdrop of Cold War tensions, this Agatha Christie drama sees a married couple stumble into a world of murder, conspiracy and undercover agents.

Jessica’s character Tuppence is a lady with the ability to seek out adventure, wherever it may be. Determined to discover the truth, she’ll happily jump with intense passion, into any mystery which comes her way. Meanwhile, Tommy would much prefer the pair exercise a more cautious approach in their investigations.

Partners In Crime BBC Trailer

Having famously quit as Jenny Lee from the hit television series Call the Midwife, Partners In Crime will now see Jessica return to BBC One for yet another period role. The popular English actress also recently starred in BBC Two’s six-parter Wolf Hall, where she played Jane Boleyn.

In contrast, co-star David Walliams is far better known for showing his comedic side in such shows as Big School, Little Britain and even as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent. But don’t expect the 43-year-old actor/writer to suppress his comedy antics too much. Despite Partners In Crime being a murder-mystery drama, the show still promises plenty of humour.

Speaking about the casting news, BBC’s Controller of Drama Commissioning Ben Stephenson, said: “This new and exciting partnership between David and Jessica promises to bring a fresh new take on these classic and well-loved adventures. With their combination of humour, wit and talent, I can’t think of two people better suited to take on the iconic roles of Tommy and Tuppence.”

When does Partners In Crime start on BBC One?

The air date and time for episode 1 of Partners In Crime has now been officially set for Sunday the 26th of July at 9:00pm on BBC1.

Premiering this September, the series is due to air in the US on streaming service Acorn TV.
