What part does the Doctor Who actor, Peter Capaldi, play in The Musketeers TV series?
Capaldi who takes on the role of the 12th Doctor, will also star in fellow BBC series The Musketeers, where he plays the part of Cardinal Richelieu.
In addition to Capaldi, the show will also star Santiago Cabrera as Aramis, Tom Burke as Athos, Howard Charles as Porthos and Luke Pasqualino as the lead character D’Artagnan.
According to the BBC’s character description, “Cardinal Richelieu, while striving to achieve his vision of a thoroughly modern France, is a shadowy character who will stop at nothing to achieve his objectives.”
Scottish actor Peter Capaldi has carved out one of the most distinctive careers in British television and film. Born in Glasgow in 1958, Capaldi first gained international attention for his searing portrayal of spin doctor Malcolm Tucker in the BBC political satire The Thick of It. His fast-talking, sharp-tongued performance won him critical acclaim and an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film as a director for Franz Kafka’s It’s a Wonderful Life.
Capaldi’s most famous role, however, came in 2013 when he was cast as the Twelfth Doctor in Doctor Who. His darker, more intense interpretation of the Time Lord added gravitas to the long-running sci-fi series, earning him a devoted following around the world.
In recent years, Capaldi has continued to expand his range. He appeared in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad (2021) as the eccentric Thinker and currently stars in the Prime Video thriller The Devil’s Hour (2022–), where he plays Gideon, a mysterious prisoner at the heart of the show’s chilling narrative.
