Did you make any New Years resolutions to have more TV ratings wars in 2014? Well it appears BBC and ITV did.

As if the old Strictly/X Factor battle wasn’t enough, Sunday, 19 January, 2014 will see 3 big series premieres in just two hours, including a rather interesting head-to-head.

First up at 8:00pm on BBC One, there’s the return of Call The Midwife for series 3. This will then be directly followed at 9:00pm by episode 1 of the brand new adventure series, The Musketeers.

Meanwhile over on ITV at 9 o’clock, following Dancing on Ice, we’ll see the long awaited season 2 premiere of period drama, Mr Selfridge.

So will The Musketeers be able to piggyback enough of Call the Midwife’s loyal viewers to successfully launch it’s own fan base? Or will the already established Mr Selfridge force the competition out of business?

Although Sunday the 19th will prove an interesting night for British telly, it’s hard to see BBC sustaining this exact schedule week after week.
