The lead character Becky Sharp is played in this 2018 television adaptation by the 24-year-old English actress Olivia Cooke, who was born in Oldham, Greater Manchester.
Some of Olivia’s biggest television and film roles to date include playing Emma Decody in the TV thriller Bates Motel and Art3mis / Samantha Cook in Steven Spielberg’s science-fiction movie Ready Player One.
Airing on ITV in the second half of 2018, this adaptation of William Makepeace Thackeray’s novel is set against the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars and follows Olivia Cooke’s character Becky Sharp, as she tries to fight her way out of poverty and work her way up the levels of English society.
Filming for Vanity Fair began last year in the Hungarian capital of Budapest, before continuing at locations in and around London. The series is due to broadcast in Britain on ITV, before later premiering in America on Amazon Prime Video.
